Sudan – Unexpected Circumstances

Client: Major French Client

A patient in Khartoum, Sudan was suffering from Myocardial Infarction and was in need of immediate transfer from the hospital in Khartoum to a well-equipped hospital in Europe, either via Cairo or directly. The client company could not directly arrange the transfer due to the 10-15 day visa process for Europeans. However, Egyptian doctors do not require visas for entry into Sudan, and CONNEX Assistance was able to respond immediately.

After a stretcher flight (a stretcher placed on a normal commercial flight) from Khartoum to Cairo was selected to be followed by a normal repatriation flight from Cairo to Europe with a medical escort. In an unforeseen turn of events, a fire broke out at the Khartoum airport and all flights to Khartoum were cancelled. CONNEX Assistance was successfully able to efficiently reschedule all arrangements for the transfer. Arrangements were made for the transfer flight to Cairo with a medical escort as well as for the ground transport of the patient in Khartoum and Cairo. Airport assistance, including all immigration procedures, was provided. CONNEX Assistance arranged for admission and coverage in a suitable hospital in Cairo prior to repatriation. CONNEX Assistance also arranged for the doctor to be met at the airport, for his transportation to the hospital, and for his hotel accommodation.
